The river Odense Å has been an arterial thoroughfare for the inhabitants of the city for centuries. Running some 60 km from Arreskov Lake to Odense Fjord, this is the longest river on Fyn. It passes close to Odense Zoo, the lovely gardens in the smart residential suburb of Hunderup, the woods at Fruens Bøge and just a stone's throw from the Funen Village. You can enjoy a trip on the Odense River Cruise or hire a canoe or rowing boat.

The Fjord boat Svanen departs from five harbours and offers trips through one of the most interesting areas of countryside on Fyn aboard the Svanen. The area teems with birds, with around 10,000 breeding pairs, including mute swans. The Fjord is now a nature reserve, and certain areas are closed to the public.
