Breakfast. Collected by coach and guide.

The day’s programme is a fairy-tale tour of the Fyn countryside. The guide shows us places which inspired Hans Christian Andersen to write many of his tales.

And so we are out in the countryside. The coach drives past Hans Christian Andersen’s soldier marching along the lane. The witch is waiting for him by the willow tree, so he can bring her the tinder box.

The guide tells the story on the coach

You can also watch the busy ducks on a castle lake or a village pond as the guide reads “The Ugly Duckling”. In one of the coastal towns we will meet the little match girl; in another the guide will tell the story of how Hans Christian Andersen fell in love with the daughter of a local merchant. On the coach we will hear some of the songs that Han Christian Andersen wrote. We eat our packed lunches out in the countryside which the writer visited during his numerous stays on Fyn. The coach returns us to the hotel in time to change for dinner. Dinner with entertainment. Night at the hotel.

Day 3:

Breakfast. The coach picks up the guests, and drives them, with a guide to Odense, where there is a fascinating walk in the footsteps of the writer. We start at the Hans Christian Andersen Museum. Then we walk past the site of the old Odense Theatre. Hans Christian Andersen often went there as a child, and so was inspired in his dream of succeeding in the theatrical world.

We go past the building where he went to school and the place where his mother did laundry for customers, past the fairy-tale garden and on to St. Knud’s Church, where the writer was confirmed. Finally, we have a look inside his childhood home in Munkemølle Stræde. Lunch at own expense. Departure
