Faaborg Fjord is the best “hurricane hole” in the kingdom of Denmark.

Situated on the south-western coastline of the Isle of Fyn and sheltered by the many islands in the archipelago, Faaborg has always played an important role in shipping.

Nowadays the midsized cruise ships can anchor up east of Bjørnø, and the smaller once can go alongside the quay in the ferry harbour – smack in the heart of town!

Once upon a time Faaborg was the third biggest port in all of Denmark with more than 300 schooners registered here. The history of Faaborg, however, goes back to year 1229 and the many old merchant townhouses are still to be seen.

Enjoy the narrow streets and the small houses in the centre of town between the town hall and the church tower.

Look into the yards of the old trading companies or take a trip to one of the many manor houses or cartels in the surrounding area or take one of the small ferries to some of the many smaller islands in the archipelago.

Even the Danish Alps are to be found only 1½ mile from the town centre.
