Art on Fyn

Follow the the painters of Fyn from Faaborg to Kerteminde, and pay a visit to Grimmerhus - Denmarks Ceramics Museum and Brandts on the way.

Faaborg Museum

Faaborg Museum Faaborg Museum
Fyn’s Preserves Manufacturer Mads Rasmussen founded Faaborg Museum long ago based on the motto: “What must be bought, shall be bought”, and posterity has benefited from a great deal of Fyn artwork as a result.

The delineation between the work of Fyn’s museums and galleries is by and large that Faaborg Museum represents the broad spectrum of Fyn art. Here you will find gems by Peter Hansen, Fritz Syberg, Johannes Larsen and Poul S. Christiansen. There are Fyn idylls, summer and sun, plough furrows and soft shapes in the landscape, verdant and mild. Sculptor Kai Nielsen, painters Jens Birkholm, Karl Schou, Harald Giersing, Anna Syberg, Christine Swane and Alhed Larsen are also strongly represented at Faaborg Museum.
Open April to October: daily from 10 am – 4 pm.

Nov – March: Tues – Sun, 11 am – 3 pm.

Fyns Kunstmuseum

Fyns Kunstmuseum Fyns Kunstmuseum
Art lovers simply must make time to visit Fyns Kunstmuseum (art museum).

It is one of the oldest in Denmark, built in 1885 in classical style. The collection was established in the early 1880s and includes a superb, representative selection of works from paintings to sculptures and graphic art – created by the most significant Danish artists of the time: Elisabeth Jerichau Baumann, H.A. Brendekilde, Dankvart Dreyer, C.W. Eckersberg, Paul Gernes, Harald Giersing, Jens Juel, P.S. Krøyer, Christen Købke, Johannes Larsen and Richard Mortensen.

In September 2008, a special exhibition also opens with the theme LIVSLYST, Skønhed – Styrke – Sundhed i dansk kunst (‘zest for life – beauty – strength – health in Danish art’) 1890–1940. The exhibition focuses on paintings and sculptures from 1890–1940, a time when the motto ‘a healthy mind in a healthy body’ was a major influence on art.
