Fyn skal ses fra vandet Fyn skal ses fra vandet

Fyn seen from the seaside

With their long coasts, numerous islands and lovely shores, the waters around Fyn are some of the most exhilarating in Denmark. Here you can read more about the many opportunities for getting out and experiencing Fyn from the water.

On the fjord

Fjordbåden Svanen Fjordbåden Svanen
Enjoy the wide-open space of Kerteminde Fjord. Birds and bird-song are plentiful here, along with clean salt water, woodlands, fields, little sandy beaches, the village of Kølstrup, and Munkebo and Kerteminde towns are also visible from the fjord side. This is a lovely trip, but it requires a very calm day. Not dangerous, but demanding. For further information, see
www.khj.dk/kanotur

Svanen (the Swan) fjord boat – Odense Fjord
In summer, there are trips on Svanen (the Swan) departing from Odense and Boels Bro jetty. Svanen calls at Klintebjerg, Vigelsø, Enebærodde and Lodshuse. The ODENSE FJORD open-air map is a map of the area around Odense Fjord, Kerteminde Fjord and Kertinge Nor, but it also covers Hindsholm. The map shows the official cycle trails and provides a good overview – even from the water – to help you see where you are and where you can make further scenic discoveries. You can view the map here: www.fjordensdag.dk, and it is also available from Fjordens Dags Sekretariat, local libraries and tourist offices. You can view Svanen’s sailing times at www.nord-line.dk
You can board Svanen at Englandskajen, DK-5000 Odense C. For reservations and further details, Tel. +45 21 43 59 50 or +45 20 23 11 88. A ticket to take you round the whole fjord costs DKK 140. Svanen sails four times a day. You can buy light refreshments onboard, or otherwise bring your own packed lunch.

Why not try ... Seal safari

På Sælsafari med Castor På Sælsafari med Castor
Yes, you read that correctly…

The South Fyn Archipelago has something very special to offer: a seal safari! The low-water areas around Strynø have a small population of harbour seals. You will sail out in an old cattle barge, thought to be the last surviving model in Denmark.
It has been beautifully restored, so now you can go for a sailing trip in this grand old dame. Take a sailing trip on the barge and experience the Archipelago seals close up, or observe the amazing bird life. You will be sailing in the low-water section of the Archipelago. DKK 2,900 for a 5-hour sailing trip with space for approximately 25 passengers.

Or the Archipelago ferries

Veteranfærgen Helge Veteranfærgen Helge
There are no longer many places in Denmark that you can still reach by ferry, but there are ferries to the inhabited islands of the South Fyn Archipelago. For instance, you can cross from Faaborg to Bjørnø, from Ærø (Søby) to Als and Mommark, from Marstal to the tiny island of Birkholm or take a trip from Svendborg via Skarø to Drejø. Different companies operate different routes in the South Fyn Archipelago, but the page below provides a useful overview of all the routes with up-to-date sailing times for all routes

On the river

Odense Aafart Odense Aafart
The trip starts at the river Odense Å by Erik Bøghs Sti (path) between Den Fynske Landsby (The Funen Village) and Odense Zoo. After 14 km/4 hours’ gentle sailing, you will reach the estuary of the river entering Odense Fjord. Take your time and enjoy the day; you will glide quietly past Odense Zoo, the imposing houses with gardens that extend right down to the river banks. The trip will also take you through the heart of Odense, past the abbey, Eventyrhaven (The Fairytale Garden), St. Knud’s cathedral and even the site where Hans Christian Andersen’s mother did her washing by Torvegade! At Ejby Mølle mill, you have to take your canoe out of the water to continue the trip… no two ways about it!

Then the trip continues past the gardens of Søndergård and Kulturbotanisk Have (the cultural-botanical garden). This is a green public space with a tea pavilion, tables and benches, and it is a great place to take your main break and tuck into your packed lunch. Then you’ll enter the last and longest leg of the trip. Ahead, Odense Fjord opens out, with a low-water area by Seden Strand (beach).

The ship can hold 39 passengers and is berthed at Østre Mole in the pleasant old harbour of Bogense.
