Travelling light on two wheels
One of the smartest decisions I have made in recent years was to buy a motorbike. After many years of “car only”, I was bitten by the motorbiking bug. But what type did I want? A sports model? A touring model? An offroader?

Berend Masselink, HollandBecause I love to travel, I finally chose a touring bike. A model that would cause no problems on long trips, and one that was fitted with a windshield, panniers and a navigation system. Since I bought it, I leave the car in the garage more and more often, and wheel out my “iron horse” at every opportunity. Is there anything better than riding off somewhere with the guys – or with your better half – and exploring the countryside? My motorbike also lets me go places I could not get to in a car. And my enjoyment reached new levels when I swapped my touring bike for an offroader, on which I can leave the asphalt behind and ride on forest trails and sandy tracks.
My offroader is fitted with a windshield and a top box, too. I can still take my motorbike on camping trips like I used to; it just requires a bit of improvisation. For long camping trips abroad, I use panniers and a top box. These give me more than enough space to pack everything I need for the tour.
An elastic luggage net is perfect for securing my tent to the back seat. But if I am going away for a weekend with my girlfriend, we can easily manage without a tent. Thanks to the comprehensive range of cabins on offer –- from standard to luxury – we can ride from one campsite to the next without having to drag a tent and sleeping bags around with us. The spacious top box can easily hold our shoes, clothes, toiletries, towels, camera and so on. Travelling light – that is what it is all about. And just think, I used to pack the car to bursting point just to take a few days’ holiday … !
