"Light in the Darkness"
16:30-22:00 Photo project by two young Ukrainian women, Inna Stelmakh and Lena Riis.
The two Ukrainian photographers, Inna Stelmakh and Lena Riis, were living and studying in Denmark on 22 February 2022 when Russia entered Ukraine.
In the spring of 2023, they packed their bags and travelled home to document their country's struggle. Instead of focusing on the frontline, they chose to portray the women who keep society running behind the lines.
Through their images, we meet women who collect, prepare food, teach and in countless other ways support the war effort. Using the technique of light painting, the photographers have created powerful portraits that show the women's calm and strength in a dark time.
The exhibition gives us an insight into the Ukrainian women's contribution to the war and shows how their courage and unity are a light in the darkness.
