Celebrate Langelandsfort’s anniversary in Bagenkop

The Langelandsfort Cold War Museum is marking its 73rd anniversary with a day packed with stories, people and activities. Here, you can get up close to the Cold War and experience the fort brought to life in its historic surroundings.

Meet the soldiers at Langelandsfort

Volunteer re-enactors are moving into the fort in authentic uniforms, offering a glimpse into life as a conscript in the fort’s local defence forces. This provides an opportunity to experience a part of history through the people, the military daily routine and the setting that characterised life at the fort.

Explore the re-excavated defensive positions

Eight of Langelandsfortet’s old close-defence positions have been re-excavated. Here you can see some of the places where soldiers stood guard and trained during the Cold War.

Hear stories and join a guided tour

The anniversary celebrations also feature talks recounting stories from the Cold War – including life on board a submarine. You can also join a guided tour and learn more about the fort’s history, functions and military installations.

Secret mission for children

Children can try their hand at the ‘Secret Agent for a Day’ activity. This involves observing, working together and completing tasks around the site, whilst the family explores the fort’s history.

A break along the way

When you need a break between visiting bunkers, listening to stories and taking part in activities, you can buy coffee, cake and lunch from the fort’s food van.
