Baggaardsteatret

BaggårdTeatret is one of the country's largest regional theaters measured by the number of citizens. As the regional theater for Svendborg, Faaborg-Midtfyn, Ærø, and Langeland municipalities, they reach out and create theatrical performances, experiences, school theater, and education for citizens, tourists, and visitors throughout the South Funen region.

The theater reaches out - not just in the Archipelago - but in the world. They create locally anchored performing arts also intended for the rest of the world, and international artists reside in residency under their roof. Rooted in a maritime city, they have decades of experience in connecting the ultra-local with the international. Svendborg has always been a fertile melting pot for maritime and artistic endeavors, and BaggårdTeatret stands on the shoulders of both.

Artistically, the theater moves from intimate drama to broad musical performances developed in collaboration with artists such as Søren Huss, Katinka, and the Odense Symphony Orchestra. BaggårdTeatret is a creative, producing, and professional theater that plays and lowers the threshold to the theater, welcoming more people in. They are the first in the country to take the audience out into nature on dramatized and critically acclaimed audio walks, playing when it suits the audience and in several languages. For them, the stage is larger than the theater hall, their work much more than a play.

BaggårdTeateret gives tomorrow's talents a local chance. Since 2018, they have, in collaboration with Skolerne i Oure, run the Scenekunstakademiet - a three-year talent development program that retains and develops talents and a young, creative environment in Svendborg. The ambition is to create a talent and teaching environment that does for the performing arts what Oure and GOG have done for handball.

BaggårdTeatret is a modern take on where future communities take place. Going to the theater is encountering something different or new. Whether you come by waterway, by detours, or go directly to your seat in the theater hall, you will be captivated by a story you do not yet know. With them, you are always invited.
