Svelmø - The archipelago's hidden gem

Wading to Svelmø – a hidden island gem in South Funen

A Hidden Gem in the South Funen Archipelago

Svelmø is one of the hidden gems of the archipelago – a peaceful island full of stunning landscapes, rich wildlife and a special sense of calm. There are no cars here, and the only way to reach the island is by wading, making the experience all the more authentic and unspoiled.

How to Get to Svelmø

There’s no ferry to Svelmø. To get there, you’ll need to walk—first about 500 metres along a tidal path to Lille Svelmø, then continue across a 1.5-kilometre causeway to Store Svelmø. Rubber boots or rolled-up trousers are recommended, and do keep an eye on the tide.

Explore the Island with the Svelmø Express

In summer, the island’s resident Jan offers guided tours. Guests are transported to and from the island on a tractor-drawn wagon. The ride can be bumpy, so hold on tight and enjoy the views across the South Funen Archipelago.

Taste of Svelmø

After the tour, enjoy a local treat: either freshly caught fish from the surrounding waters or home-raised beef, served with freshly dug potatoes. Everything is local and prepared with care.
