Enjoy local produce from Ærø at Gravendal

Mette at Gravendal B&B invites you to a cosy meal together at the long table.

Mette is a trained chef, herb expert and sourdough master, and creates dishes with heart, flavour and local ingredients. She also has a great passion for organic produce.

For the communal meal, Mette has acquired a local calf. She explains:
"The story begins right outside my window. To the north, near Gravendal, a calf has been grazing on the undulating landscape. Born on the neighbouring farm, raised on the land north of Gravendal as part of the nature conservation that is so vital to our island. I have followed it through the seasons. Watched it move through the landscape it has helped to shape. Now the calf has been hanging on a hook for two weeks. Once it has hung for another week, it will be cut up and return to Ærø as an ingredient for unrivalled meals. It is a circle, and that is what gives it meaning."

As well as local meat, Mette also serves wild herbs from the Ærø coastline and other local produce.

Weather permitting, dinner will be served al fresco beneath the large copper beech in Gravendal’s stunning garden. So please do bring a warm jumper.

Come on your own or bring a good friend and enjoy a cosy evening in good company – you’re sure to meet new people.

Price and booking

The price of the meal is 150 DKK per person. Drinks are charged separately.

Sign up via online booking – you can sign up as many people as you like, but places are limited, so make sure you book your place before it’s too late.

Gravendal

Gravendal, where you will be dining, is an old fisherman’s cottage dating from 1858 – the oldest and most impressive of its kind on Ærø. The historic buildings still bear witness to the place’s long history. Today, the property is a B&B run by the passionate Mette Meldgaard.
