Christmas in the Funen Village
When snow begins to fall and the lanterns are lit, The Funen Village transforms into a living Christmas tale. The scent of spruce, elves in the attic, and cosy activities for the whole family await – right in the middle of history and far from holiday stress.
Elves and evergreens – Christmas at The Funen Village
As Christmas approaches, a special calm settles over the Village. Here, you’ll feel the charm of history and the spirit of a traditional Danish country Christmas – close to the city, yet far from the hustle of shopping and holiday pressure. The houses are filled with the scent of spruce and freshly baked cookies, and everywhere you go, you’ll find small moments of joy for both children and adults. Wander between the decorated farmhouses, enjoy cheerful barrel organ music, take a ride in a horse-drawn carriage – or stop by the old-fashioned shop for gingerbread hearts and handmade gifts.
Meet the elves of the Village
Christmas at The Funen Village also includes a visit to the elf’s cosy little home – a miniature world tucked away in the loft above the cow stable. The air is filled with the scent of spruce garlands and baking, while candlelight flickers in the dark. Known in the old days as the “gårdbo” (farm elf), he cherishes Christmas traditions. On special elf tours, children can hear stories about his life and create their own elf using natural materials.
The story behind Christmas decorations
In the long, dark winter days, we come together and fill our homes with light and festive cheer. At The Funen Village, you can experience old Danish Christmas traditions – roll beeswax candles, make ornaments from natural materials, and hear stories about how Danish holiday customs have evolved through the ages.
The taste of Christmas
Christmas is also a celebration of flavours. In the Village, you can sample the brewers’ warm Christmas beer – a traditional Danish drink reminiscent of mulled wine – or enjoy freshly baked cookies and medister sausage. Still hungry? Try æbleskiver at the scouts’ Christmas stall or stop by Café Krostuen for lunch.
