Rudkøbing as a starting point

The charming market town of Rudkøbing is an ideal starting point for the trip, with its narrow streets, low townhouses with hollyhocks, and atmospheric merchant’s courtyards. In the town centre, you’ll find small specialty shops and cafés – perfect for a cup of coffee before continuing your ride.

Northeast of the town lies Simmerbølle Church, a medieval church with a distinctive tower from the 19th century. Not far from there, you pass Pederstrup, a small village with beautiful half-timbered farmhouses. On the way towards Spodsbjerg, you cycle through a scenic area featuring characteristic glacial hills (“hatbakker”) from the Ice Age.

Spodsbjerg and the coast

At the Spodsbjerg coast, you’ll find the child-friendly beach Drejet, surrounded by summer houses. The old fishing village, mentioned as early as 1472, still has an active maritime environment with ferry services and fresh fish for sale. Also look out for the former station building from the Langelandsbanen railway – a nice piece of cultural history.

South of Spodsbjerg, the landscape opens up near Sønderskov with views across the Langeland Belt. Nearby is Næbbeskov, known for its rich butterfly fauna.

Back towards Rudkøbing

On the way back, you pass Fredskoven with views over Vejlen and the town. In the area lies the manor Fårevejle from the 14th century, surrounded by a classic Langeland cultural landscape with hedgerows, fields, and small woodland patches.

Back in Rudkøbing, you can visit the Langeland Museum or stop by Rudkøbing Mill on the old fortification embankment. End the trip at the harbour, where ferries depart for Ærø and Strynø, or take a swim at the restored bathing house.

The trip can be cycled in both directions, and you choose your own starting point.
