Culinary Market

Each year in June, Svendborg hosts Kulinarisk Sydfyn (Culinary South Funen), a food market filling the entire city centre with the best of slow food, organic food, and local ingredients. The committed exhibitors will offer you plenty of samples while telling you the story behind their products.

The prestigious Nordisk Ostefestival (Nordic Cheese Festival) and DM i Grill (Danish Barbecue Championship) are also held at the food market. The kids will love the Children’s Restaurant, where they can experience being a chef and invite their parents and siblings for an exquisite dinner.

Many of the market’s products are produced on the small islands of the South Funen Archipelago. The islanders long ago acknowledged that focusing on quality and unique local characteristics was a must. Today, they produce honey, apple juice, chocolate, ice-cream, meat, sausages, oil, aromatic salt, and beer – all of the highest quality. The fact that these products are artisanal, and not industrial, is easy to taste, and they are indeed the perfect fit for this particular food market as Svendborg is the first city in Denmark to be a certified Cittaslow city, where quality and calm is preferred to living life in the fast lane.
