Parade for the living and the dead
As darkness falls, the streets of Svendborg glow with light, music and movement. Experience a magical parade of lanterns, costumes and imaginative figures.
The Light Parade in Svendborg brings children and adults together in a shared procession through the city. The parade is the culmination of a series of workshops held in the weeks leading up to the event, where participants create lanterns, costumes and figures for the procession.
During the parade, music, dance and large imaginative characters move through Svendborg’s winding streets. The route passes through Kattesundet, Gerritsgade, Kyseborgstræde and Møllergade before returning to Torvet in the town centre. Visitors can watch from along the route or join the parade as a costumed participant.
After the parade, Torvet transforms into an atmospheric marketplace with rituals, singing, food stalls and popcorn. The evening marks the transition into the darker season and combines a celebration of life with a moment to remember those who are no longer here.
