Glavendruplunden is a lovely place for a family outing with history, nature and play. Here you can see the Glavendrup Stone, walk around the large ship setting and let the children experience the Viking Age through runes, stones and stories.

Turn the trip into a cosy family day

  • Pack lunch, water bottles and a few snacks before you leave home, such as cold squash, apples, rolls or something else for a break in the green surroundings.
  • Download the Naturetales app so the children can follow the story “Harald and the Great Rune Stone” along the way.
  • Wear practical shoes, especially if the grass is wet, and bring a blanket or something to sit on if needed.
  • Bring a Viking game, ball, throwing game or other small outdoor games for after the walk.
You can also stop in Søndersø on the way and buy fruit, bread or a little extra for your packed lunch.

When you arrive at Glavendruplunden

  • Park at Glavendruplunden, Stenager 12, 5485 Skamby.
  • Start your trip by the avenue and walk up towards the memorial grove.
  • Take a look at the Glavendrup Stone and see whether the children can find the runes.
  • Walk along the stones in the ship setting and try to see the shape of a large Viking ship.
  • Use Naturetales along the way, so the story becomes part of the trip.
  • Take a lunch break at the tables, on the benches or on the grass, and play in the green surroundings afterwards.

The Glavendrup Stone has Denmark’s longest runic inscription and was raised around the year 900 by Ragnhild in memory of her husband Alle. For children, the place can quickly come to life: the runes become ancient signs, the stones form a Viking ship, and the grove becomes a small journey back in time.
