Bågø offers an innovative combination of a nature school, outdoor education centre, conference venue and hostel. Together with the island’s beautiful scenery and friendly residents, it provides the perfect setting for learning, recreation and relaxation.

Things to see and do on Bågø

Nature is Bågø’s greatest attraction. The island is home to a rich variety of birdlife thanks to its extensive meadows and small lakes. You can spot avocets, eider ducks, little ringed plovers and grey herons, while white-tailed eagles, ospreys, hen harriers and hobbies are also regularly seen. Two birdwatching towers offer excellent opportunities to observe the wildlife.

The coastal meadows are home to a wide range of plants, including lady’s bedstraw, thrift, field scabious, sea wormwood and sea kale. Hares, pheasants and roe deer also thrive on the island. Along the coast, you have a good chance of spotting seals and harbour porpoises.

The west coast is part of the Havørred Fyn fishing area, making it a great place for sea trout fishing. The island also features several marked hiking trails.

Be sure to visit Hestestalden, where you can explore an exhibition about the history of Bågø. On the island’s northeastern side, you will also find the historic storm flood stone.

When you arrive at Bågø Harbour by ferry, you will find the island’s only grocery shop as well as bicycle rental.

• Bågø has approximately 20 permanent residents.
• The island is located 5 km northwest of Assens in the Little Belt.
• It measures approximately 2 km across at its narrowest point and 3 km at its longest.
• The ferry crossing between Assens and Bågø takes around 30 minutes.
• The harbour kiosk sells groceries and is normally open from 1 June to 30 August.
• Bågø is part of Assens Municipality.
