Island life, community and short distances

The cycle route starts at Strynø Harbour, where the ferry docks (30-minute crossing from Rudkøbing), and takes you on a circular tour through Strynø’s open countryside, narrow lanes and vibrant island communities. Just past the harbour, you’ll pass the Archipelago’s Taste Centre, where the island’s maritime stories and traditions are gathered around boats, sailing and life in the South Funen Archipelago.

Strynø town and the island’s gathering places

The route continues through Strynø town, where the May Tree (junction 19) stands as a natural focal point. Here you can clearly sense the close-knit island community, where the church, the shop and the inn are situated close to one another and still play an important role in everyday life on the island. On the walk, you will also pass the large, beautiful school and Det Gamle Mejeri (junction 87), which bear witness to Strynø’s local history and strong sense of community.

Mill, church and views of the Archipelago

On the other side of the island, the narrow roads lead down towards the water, including at Strynø Mill (junction 17). Here, the landscape opens out towards the Archipelago, and you get the feeling of being right up close to both the sea and the island’s history. On your way back towards the harbour, you’ll pass Strynø Church, the grocery shop and the inn once more, before the route ends where it began.

The cycle route is 11.2 km long with flat terrain and can be cycled at a leisurely pace. All the island’s roads end in dead ends by the water, offering lovely views and the chance to take a break. The cycle route on Strynø is ideal as a short, atmospheric ride for both adults and families.
