Experience the Christmas atmosphere at The Funen Village

As winter settles over The Funen Village, the historic houses are decorated for Christmas, and cosy experiences await visitors throughout the village. Guests can explore the festive homes, enjoy a horse-drawn carriage ride through the village, or visit the old village shop, where gingerbread hearts and small Christmas gifts are among the items on offer.

Meet the Christmas elf and discover the story of the farm spirit

Christmas at The Funen Village also offers the chance to meet the farm spirit, the figure that became known as the Christmas elf in later times. Visitors can step inside his small home hidden in the loft above the cowshed and discover the stories and folklore associated with Christmas traditions.

Special guided tours introduce both children and adults to the tales of the farm spirit, his role on traditional Funen farms and the customs that surrounded him through generations.

Creative Christmas activities for the whole family

Christmas at The Funen Village includes a variety of activities inspired by preparations for the festive season in earlier times. Visitors can try rolling beeswax candles or making Christmas decorations from recycled materials. These hands-on activities offer an insight into historic Christmas traditions while providing a chance to create something of their own in authentic surroundings.

The taste of Christmas in historic surroundings

In the village’s decorated kitchens, visitors can explore historic Christmas dishes and learn how festive food and drinks were prepared in the past.

Guests can also enjoy warm æbleskiver, traditional Danish Christmas pancakes, from the Scouts’ Christmas stall or sit down for lunch at Café Krostuen. For children and playful adults alike, the straw play area offers plenty of fun and activity to round off a festive day out.
