Egebjerg Bakker and Stenstrup Issø

Egebjerg Bakker and Stenstrup Issø lie about 8-10 km northwest of Svendborg and form a distinctive Ice Age landscape within Geopark The South Fyn Archipelago. Egebjerg Bakker is an end moraine pushed up by ice around 18,000-17,000 years ago. To the north was Stenstrup Issø, an ice-dammed lake formed by meltwater. Its clay deposits have supported local brick production since the Middle Ages.

Marked walking routes cross the landscape, including the Archipelago Trail. At Egebjerg Mølle (mill), Egebjerg Mølle Naturrum presents the area's natural and cultural history and offers views across the hills. Nearby, the protected Rødme Svinehaver grassland has diverse vegetation and large stones left behind by the ice.

To the east are Højes Dong Bakker and the 112-metre-high Højbjerg viewpoint. The area also has small lakes, wetlands, picnic areas, a covered picnic shelter and a shelter site. Together, the landscape features tell the story of moving ice, meltwater and later human use of its natural resources.
