Fønsvang Sø (Lake)
Fønsvang Sø is a restored fjord bed that today holds rich birdlife. At 102 hectares, it's Fyn's second-largest lake, with a scenic view from the birdwatching tower. A quiet nature area where you might spot white-tailed eagles, kingfishers, and nesting wading birds.

From the birdwatching tower at the lake's eastern end, the view opens across Fønsvang Sø and on to Gamborg Fjord. In the background, Føns and Udby churches stand against the sky. You don't need to do anything but take in this calm panorama.
For more than 145 years, the bed of Gamborg Fjord lay drained. In 2005, Fyn County let the water flow back in, and Fønsvang Sø was formed. Today the 102-hectare lake is one of Vestfyn's most important bird habitats and part of an internationally protected Ramsar area.
Out in the middle of the lake sits a small island, where avocets and common terns nest undisturbed each summer. White-tailed eagles are regularly seen circling low over the water, and if you can stay still long enough, there's also a chance to spot a kingfisher from the tower.
The road down to the lake passes Føns Church, standing atop the hill like a natural landmark. Down by the water you'll find tables, benches, and information boards. The birdwatching tower and parking lot are open to the public, even though the lake itself is privately owned.
