Frøbjerg Bavnehøj: The highest point on Funen
From the top of Frøbjerg Bavnehøj, a magnificent view awaits you. The hill was formed at the end of the Ice Age and has been a gathering place since ancient times.

Frøbjerg Bavnehøj – The highest point on Funen
At 131 metres above sea level, Frøbjerg Bavnehøj is the highest point on Funen. The protected area around Frøbjerg Bavnehøj consists of two hills: the Bavnehøj itself and “Den Lille Høj” at 122 metres.
Both hills are part of a distinctive glacial landscape shaped by dead ice formations. The hills are characterised by their flat tops, steep slopes and dramatic meltwater ravines.
A sacred place in ancient times
Frøbjerg is named after the fertility god Frø or Frej. In ancient times, Frøbjerg was considered a sacred place where sacrificial ceremonies and celebrations were held.
During the Middle Ages, Frøbjerg Bavnehøj was part of a chain of beacon hills. In times of war, warning fires were lit on hilltops across the landscape to communicate and warn neighbouring areas.
