Horne Church

Horne Round Church is the only round church on Funen and one of the region’s most remarkable cultural heritage sites. Its distinctive architecture, fascinating history and artistic treasures make it an inspiring attraction for visitors interested in Danish history and culture.

History and architecture

The church today reflects centuries of development. Although later extensions have altered the original structure, the historic round church can still be recognised, giving the building its unique character.

Art and cultural heritage

The interior holds significant historical value. Among its highlights are works by the renowned Danish Golden Age painter Eckersberg. The church also features a rare combination of a noble gallery and a separate communion hall.

Legends and film history

Horne Church occupies a special place in local history and is associated with numerous stories and legends passed down through generations. The award-winning Danish film Adam’s Apples was filmed here in 2004, attracting film enthusiasts from Denmark and abroad.

Meditation

Christian meditation is held every Thursday at 5:00 PM throughout the year. No special experience is required, only a willingness to embrace silence. Everyone is welcome. A leaflet about Horne Round Church is available for purchase.
