Follow Cnut through the city

The podwalk begins at Flakhaven and takes you through central Odense to places connected with the life and death of Cnut the Holy.

The story takes you back to the 11th century, when Cnut was King of Denmark and tried to strengthen both royal power and the church. Opposition to his rule grew, and in 1086 a rebellion ended with the king seeking refuge in St Alban’s Church in Odense. Here, he was killed in front of the altar.

A few years later, Cnut was canonised, and his story became part of the transition from Viking Age royal power to the Christian Middle Ages.

Eight stops along the way

The walk consists of eight stops, where the audio stories start automatically as you approach. Narrator Lukas Bjerg guides you through the story and the places in the city where the events unfolded.

You take the walk at your own pace using the StoryHunt app on your phone. The route is 1.6 km long and takes about 1 hour.

Take the walk when it suits you

The podwalk is available in English and can be purchased in the StoryHunt app. Once the tour is unlocked, you can take it independently whenever it suits you.

Along the way, you not only hear the story of Cnut the Holy, but also walk through the modern city above some of the places where Odense’s transition from the Viking Age to the Middle Ages took place.
