Syltemade Ådal
Follow the natural stream through Syltemade Ådal, where steep slopes, springs and lush nature create a distinctive landscape. The Archipelago Trail leads through a valley shaped by Ice Age meltwater.
Syltemade Ådal lies about 10 km west of Svendborg and is a distinctive meltwater valley with steep slopes and diverse plant and animal life. A 4.5 km section of the Archipelago Trail follows the valley and the natural course of the stream. The southern part is protected, while the entire area is privately owned, so you must stay on the designated path.
The valley contains grassland, meadows, wetlands, woodland and natural springs. Along the stream, you can encounter flowers, frogs, dragonflies and numerous small birds. One of the springs is Eskilds Kilde (spring), whose water was once believed to have healing properties.
The valley was formed by meltwater around 18,000-17,000 years ago during the last Ice Age and forms part of a larger valley system that includes Ollerup Sø. Syltemade Ådal is part of Geopark The South Fyn Archipelago. The path is not suitable for pushchairs or visitors with limited mobility.
