The Red Clover Leaf Trail in Otterup is a 9.3 km walking or cycling route that takes you through varied nature.

The Red Clover Leaf Trail is a lovely route through the countryside just outside the town.

Egense and the reclaimed land

The route follows the road through the idyllic landscape, where farming has taken place for many years – and before that, this area was water. Egense is first mentioned in 1427, and the name is made up of the words oak and headland. To the south-east, there was once a headland covered in oak trees, surrounded by water on three sides.

Egense Fjord stretched as an open waterway from Nærå Strand to Egensedybet in Odense Fjord. In 1781–1783, Joachim Godske Moltke from Egebjerggård Estate reclaimed Krogsbølle Fjord, draining one side of the area. In 1818, landowner Elias Møller from Østrupgaard reclaimed Fjordmarken, draining the area on the other side. So today, you can cycle or walk here and enjoy the nature and birdsong.

In the Middle Ages, there was a church in Egense, but it was demolished during the Reformation. Its baptismal font stood for many years as a birdbath in the vicar’s garden, but today it is once again used as a baptismal font in Hasmark Church, which was built in 1892.

Otterup Byskov

Otterup Byskov consists of lovely varied woodland, planted in 1993–1994, and the old Otterup Mose. Here you can enjoy the beautiful nature, and in this woodland you are allowed to walk off the paths too. So if anyone feels like playing in the woods or taking a closer look at nature, there is plenty of space.

There are also picnic tables where you can enjoy your packed lunch, have something to drink and take a little break.

In Otterup town, there are plenty of places to buy something to drink and a tasty bite to eat. The shops and cafés are close to Torvet in the town centre.
