The maritime sector

The maritime sector has always played a significant role in Denmark, especially on Fyn. We have a proud maritime history with some of the world’s leading maritime educational institutions, such as SIMAC in Svendborg, shipyards and port facilities like the former Odense Steel Shipyard, Lindø, now Odense Port, and shipping companies like the world-renowned Maersk, which originated in Svendborg in Southern Fyn. It is this history and experience that we continue to build on in Fyn.

The Blue Denmark is a commercial stronghold with great importance to the Danish economy. With Fyn as a starting point, the foundation is laid for developing the industry as a central player in the advancement of blue technologies and attractive jobs with increased competitiveness. The maritime businesses of the future depend on data and new technologies, which the Fyn ecosystem has solid expertise and experience with – particularly through its work with the development and testing of robots and drones.

One of the largest hubs for maritime development and innovation is centered in Southern Fyn. Here, Svendborg Port serves as the maritime powerhouse, featuring the Svendborg Maritime Business Park and BlueTech Center, Denmark’s leading maritime education center SIMAC, and NextGen Robotics as a driving force for maritime progress.

The combination of unique maritime shipyard, port, and production facilities in Odense, the geography of the South Fyn Archipelago, the presence of highly specialized maritime competencies, an innovative and entrepreneurial environment, proximity to the robotics and drone cluster, and SDU collectively create a unique foundation for development, testing, and demonstration of maritime and autonomous technology on Fyn. At the same time, this makes Fyn the obvious choice for congresses, conferences, and meetings within the maritime world.
