Odense at a glance
Odense is situated in the heart of Denmark on the Island of Fyn. It is Denmark’s third-largest city and one of Denmark’s oldest. It was once the site of a Viking ring fortress on the banks of the Odense River, and due to this rich history, it has for centuries been a favourite destination for visitors, particularly known as the hometown of the celebrated author Hans Christian Andersen. Today, Odense is a modern city and has a strong vision for its continuous growth and welfare, encouraging big dreams and challenging the norms, for example, through festivals, conferences, and other events on an international scale. Odense is easy to reach, easy to navigate, and easy to feel at home in.
Centre of innovation, knowledge, and education
An ambitious urban development plan is currently transforming the city with new green urban spaces, a city centre closed for car traffic, and a new university hospital physically linked to the university. All connected by an environment-friendly light-rail. This transformation has consolidated Odense’s position as a centre of innovation, knowledge, and education, where research and strong clusters in the fields of robotics, drones, health technology, and IT are booming.
How to get to Odense
When arriving at Copenhagen Airport you can catch the direct train to Odense.
The train station is located underneath Terminal 3. Just follow the signs directing you toward the train and take the escalator down to platform 2.
Trains to Odense (via Copenhagen Central Station) depart from Platform 2 and the direct train runs approximately every 30 minutes during the day. At night there are further between trains. The journey time from the airport to Odense by direct train is around 1 hour 40 min
Buying train tickets
The national train company is DSB. You can buy tickets from the DSB sales desk in Terminal 3, or from the machines near to the desk and in the baggage reclaim area. The machines only take coins or debit/credit cards.
However, we recommend buying the tickets in advance on the DSB website. Tickets bought at the website will be issued as a PDF that you can either print or save and show on your smartphone or tablet.
If you buy tickets in advance – preferably more than a week in advance – you can save up to 2/3 of the ticket price by choosing reduced-fare tickets called either “Orange” (specific train, no refund) or “Orange Fri” (specific train, refund possible until 30 minutes before departure).
Buying a seat reservation (unit price is 30 DKK) is strongly recommended; trains are often full. Seat reservations are required when traveling with the InterCity Lyn+ /express trains.
Plan your travel via the airport and Odense here
The hotel is located in walking distance to the trainstation, but if you want to take the light rail, which has a stop right outside of the hotel, you can purchase the tickets either on Odense Tramway , or scan the QR-code at the light rail stops. The code will take you to the website for purchasing tickets as well. The tickets is sent to your phone, and you’ll need your creditcard.
