Bike Tour: The Dallund Bike Route
Saddle up and go on a 33 km long bike ride with smooth terrain and without much traffic. The tour goes past a castle, an old church and a runestone.

This route takes you through some of the classic North Funen countryside, with old villages, open fields, churches, mills, a castle and small traces of history along the way.
You get views of grain fields, rapeseed fields, apple trees, cosy villages and several places where you can take a break while enjoying the view.
What you can see on the route
Along the route, you pass Særslev Church from the 13th century. It is an open wayside church, so you can go inside and see the old building if the door is open.
The route continues through open farmland with fields, fruit trees and small villages. Among other places, you pass Sdr. Esterbølle, where the well-preserved Brolund Mill is located, before continuing through wooded areas and the old villages of Kosterslev and Vigerslev.
Take extra care when the route crosses Odensevej, as this road is very busy.
Søndersø and Dallund Castle
In Søndersø, North Funen’s third-largest town, you pass the old mill and continue along the small shops on the road towards Dallund Castle.
At Dallund Castle, you can choose to take an extra walk around the lake in front of the castle. The castle was built around 1540 and is beautifully located by the water. The walk around Dallund Lake is about 2.5 km and works well as a peaceful break on the route.
Rune stone and Viking Age at Glavendruplunden
The route also passes Glavendruplunden, where you can see the Glavendrup Stone. The large rune stone has Denmark’s longest runic inscription and was raised around the year 900.
Here, children and adults can walk among the stones, look for the runes and see the large ship setting, which makes the place feel like a small journey back to the Viking Age.
Skamby and the old railway
In Skamby, you meet traces of more recent history. The village was once a station town on the North Funen Railway, which ran from 1882 to 1966.
At Stationsvej 2, you can still see the old station building with its travellers’ stable. The building is now a private home, but it can be seen from the road.
Jullerup, Særslev and Klaus Berntsen
The route continues through the rolling fields past the old village of Jullerup and Særslev. Særslev was founded in the late Viking Age and is known for its very long main street.
Here, you also pass the statue of Klaus Berntsen. He founded Særslev Folk High School, which operated from 1882 to 1938 and was important to many young local people.
