Rudkøbing as a starting point

The charming market town of Rudkøbing (junction 30) is an ideal starting point for the tour, with its narrow streets, low-rise townhouses adorned with hollyhocks, and atmospheric merchant’s houses. In the town centre, you’ll find small specialist shops and cafés – perfect for a cup of coffee before you cycle on.

To the north-east of the town lies Simmerbølle Church (junction 48), a medieval church with a striking tower dating from the 19th century. Not far from there, you’ll pass Pederstrup (east of junction 79), a small village with beautiful half-timbered farmhouses. On the way to Spodsbjerg (junction 64), you cycle through a scenic area with characteristic ice-age hathills.

Spodsbjerg and the coast

At Spodsbjerg coast, you’ll find the child-friendly beach of Drejet, surrounded by holiday homes. The old fishing village, first mentioned as early as 1472, still has a vibrant maritime community with a ferry service and fresh fish on sale. Also look out for the former station building from the Langeland Railway – a fine piece of cultural heritage.

South of Spodsbjerg, the landscape opens up at Sønderskov with views over the Langeland Belt. Here you will also find Næbbeskov, known for its rich butterfly fauna.

Back towards Rudkøbing

On the way back, you will pass Fredskoven with views over Vejlen and the town. The area is home to the 14th-century manor house Fårevejle, surrounded by a classic Langeland cultural landscape with hedgerows, fields and small wooded areas.

Back in Rudkøbing, you can visit Langelands Museum or pop into Rudkøbing Mølle on the old ramparts. End the trip at the harbour, where ferries sail to Ærø and Strynø, or take a dip at the restored bathing establishment.

The route can be cycled in either direction, and you can choose your own starting point.
