The Northwest Funen Sculpture Trail
In Asperup near Baaring on North West Funen, sculpture meets open landscape. Here you can experience art outdoors and take a break that combines movement with reflection, close to Middelfart.
Sculptures among the fields of North West Funen
Along Kærbyvej, near Baaring, runs a 300-metre trail where sculptures stand side by side with the trees. The trail was established in 2016 through local initiative.
Here you’ll find “Boy with Dog” from 1966, created by Norwegian artist Per Ung. The sculpture previously stood at Middelfart Town Hall, donated by the Albani Foundation in 1970, before being given a new place on the trail. Many of the other sculptures were created by Frede Troelsen, whose work explores the contrast between light and dark – visible in the shapes and materials used throughout the trail.
The trail was created by the Working Group for Cultural Development in the parishes of Asperup and Roerslev, part of the Baaring Banke Local Committee – a project born from local engagement.
The sculpture trail suits you if you want to combine a walk in nature with art, without needing a museum ticket or much time. The walk is short and flat, and you can do it as part of a longer route on North West Funen or as a stop on its own.
