From station to coffee shop

What sets Velodrom Kaffebar apart from many other cafés in Odense is, first and foremost, the building itself. The coffee shop occupies the former station building at Fruens Bøge Station and has been designed with respect for its history. The building dates back to 1876, and when the coffee shop opened in 2015, the aim was to preserve as much of its distinctive railway atmosphere as possible.

The building’s history remains a visible part of the experience. During a major renovation in 2022, further efforts were made to highlight its historic details, drawing inspiration from earlier alterations to the station.

Several original features have been retained, including the old ticket window. Classic DSB railway posters hang on the walls, reinforcing the connection to the building’s past as a station. The name Velodrom is also a reference to Funen cycling legend Thorvald Ellegaard, who won six sprint world championships in the early 20th century.

Coffee in the heart of Fruens Bøge

A visit is, of course, also about what is on offer. Velodrom Kaffebar serves coffee, cakes and cold drinks, and also sells coffee beans for anyone who would like to take the flavour home. You can enjoy your coffee at the café or take it with you on a walk around Fruens Bøge.
