Hills and open countryside

The charming fishing village of Bagenkop (junction 11) is an ideal starting point for the walk, where life at the harbour sets an atmospheric tone. From here, you head out into the open countryside, where the coastline along Marstal Bay soon comes into view. Along the way, you’ll catch a glimpse of Klise Nor and the vast salt marshes where wild horses graze. On the opposite side lies the former Magleby Nor, which was reclaimed in the 19th century and today offers both a rich birdlife and fascinating cultural history.

To the east, the landscape opens up and the first hat-shaped hills appear. These characteristic hathills, formed during the last ice age, are scattered across the terrain like green islands. Langeland is home to around 1,000 of them, and several of the most striking are found in this very area around junction 77.

Near Magleby Church, you’ll pass a memorial wall dedicated to Allied airmen from the Second World War. Shortly afterwards, the route continues through open farmland, where Broløkke Manor (junction 87) stands as an impressive historic estate. The manor has been carefully restored and now houses both a hotel and a restaurant – an ideal spot for a break.

Coast, forest and views

Not far from there lies Lunden (junction 63), a peaceful nature area where forest and beach meet. From here, there is a view of Keldsnor Lighthouse and the chance for a quiet moment close to nature.

To the south-east, you reach Fakkebjerg (200 metres north of junction 73), which, at 37 metres, is one of Langeland’s highest hilltops. From the top, there is a magnificent view of the South Funen Archipelago, the Langeland Belt and the Baltic Sea – and on clear days, all the way to Germany.

Dovns Klint and the return journey

The southernmost point of the circular walk is Dovns Klint (junction 68), where the sea is slowly eroding the coast, creating a dramatic landscape. It’s well worth taking a break here and going for a walk along the cliffs or through the woods – especially during the bird migration periods, when the area is particularly lively.

On the way back towards Bagenkop, small roads wind through the open cultural landscape with gentle hills and fields. The tour ends in Bagenkop, where you started, after a varied and nature-filled round trip.

The tour can be cycled in both directions, and you choose your own starting point.
