An artwork about time and presence

NiNu consists of nine bronze elements, each measuring 80 cm in diameter and 30 cm in height. From each point, the word “now” can be heard in a different language, creating an experience in which the present moment seems to constantly shift.

The artwork revolves around a simple question: Can the present moment ever be captured? As you move between the nine points, you are reminded of how fleeting a moment can be. The sculpture is not intended to be viewed from a distance alone, but to be experienced physically through the interaction of body, space and the changing voices.

Eva Koch and art as experience

Artist Eva Koch graduated from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts and has spent many years creating works that explore time, space and the way people experience their surroundings. She is particularly known for site-specific artworks in which the viewer becomes an active part of the work.

This approach is clearly reflected in NiNu. The nine elements are placed directly within the landscape, without a plinth and without a natural centre. No voice or language is given special prominence, and the artwork encourages every visitor to create their own experience. The minimalist expression is characteristic of Eva Koch’s work, where ideas and experience take precedence over decorative effects.

Among the trees and pathways of Kongens Have, NiNu blends almost seamlessly into the landscape. That is precisely why the artwork surprises so many visitors. Visually understated, it invites people to pause for a moment and experience the park from a new perspective.

More than 30 years after its installation, the sound sculpture continues to spark curiosity. It connects art, reflection and public space in a way that still feels relevant today.
