For sailors and public with a passion for fast and streamlined sailboats there is something to look forward to when the Big Boat Challenge is held at Kerteminde: Here about 40 of the greatest boat racers of Scandinavia and their crews meet to compete in this international race. A total of 400 sailors usually participate.
The Northern Warf has been transformed into a true maritime centre with great offers for both sailors and onlookers by the sponsors of the meet.
The race itself takes place in Kerteminde Bay. Three races are held on Saturday and two races on Sunday. The spectators can follow the crews' fight at close range when the races are shown on the big screen on the wharf. Everything is garnished with cold beer, grilled sausages from the giant grill and music entertainment in the sun. Now, that is sailing in Kerteminde.
This sea race around Fyn has been held since1936 and it is thereby Denmark's oldest race. The start and finish line is in Kerteminde. Both boats with keel and catamarans partake in the race.

Kerteminde Marina creates the setting for SailExtreme – Scandinavia's greatest youth meet for optimist dinghies, which is being held during the Whitsun holiday. More than 500 dinghies compete on six marked courses on the inner part of Kerteminde Bay. 750 sailors, 250 camping units, 150 officials, several nations, 6 courses and upwards of 2,000 parents/siblings will leave their pronounced and festive impression on Kerteminde Bay, Kerteminde Marina and Kerteminde town during Whitsun. On the marina, a market street will be set up with good offers for the sailing and outdoors population. Having both senior and junior sailors in the Kerteminde Bay makes the perfect setting for a combination of competition, festivities and activities in the old market town whose number of inhabitants during those three Whitsun days increases by 50%!
More than 100 kayakers cover the 300 km around Funen. Sea Challenge Fyn is for all rowers who will challenge themselves and the clock and those in the next boat over. You will find speed, excitement, mirror-smooth waters and rough seas.
Sea Challenge Fyn is a stage race around the "island in the middle" for kayaks and coastal rowing boats.
Every year in the last week of July the trip goes from Svendborg to Svendborg, all the way around Fyn – 300 km with waves, winds and totally still waters.
Traditionally, the maritime schools compete in “travalje” rowing (i.e. using a large wooden rowboat). Spirits are high as the rowers are cheered on through many preliminary heats and semi-finals prior to the winners streaking across the finish line.
